| We are dedicating this newsletter
to the launch of Civil Branding: an effort to use brands for positive
social influence and brand difference. We believe that brands can
and should use their considerable psychological influence to engender
a more civil society. Creating progressive social meaning through
brands is a mission we are passionate about, in fact, it is our company
mission here at Brandinstinct. Furthermore,
creating social meaning with the primary message of the brand makes
a lot of sense for helping marketers to attract increasingly scarce
customer attention and go beyond CSR efforts. We think more brand
marketers should be plotting a course towards responsible management
of the specific messages brands promote to society. Civil Branding
is our answer to this need.
A new paper, written by Aaron Shields, provides
a framework for Civil Branding thinking, outlines a technique for
introducing social parameters to brand narratives and makes the
case for value-creation in this process.

We've recently set up a new blog on civilbranding.com,
where we hope to create a space for debate. Bringing together short
topical articles, this blog presents the emerging heroes of Civil
Branding and aims to map the changing landscape of brands' social
behaviour.

| We hope you find the concept of Civil Branding
as important and exciting as we do. We’re looking to extend
this debate to as many people as possible. Here are some ways you
could get involved: Write
a post for the blog. Commenting about Civil Branding and
good practice in promoting civilising messages to society.
Share your experience by getting interviewed.
We plan a series of online video interviews with top marketers from
the world’s leading brands.
Sponsor an event. This autumn, we will
be hosting forums on Civil Branding in conjunction with universities,
offering various sponsorship opportunities.
Participate in a round-table. We will
begin hosting a series of regular round-tables to bring together
thinking on important Civil Branding topics.
